Brussels

I was originally scheduled to do Brussels by myself, but Josh messaged me saying he was wicked bored back in Munich so he came to Brussels. But he got wicked sick and ended up being in the hotel room most of the time, so I still essentially did Brussels by myself. Not a problem though.

When I got there, Josh was still feeling fine, so we grabbed some food and then went to do a beer tasting. No messing about I guess. We are in Belgium, now show me this famous beer. It did not disappoint. Here are some of the beers that were tasted.

This was probably my favorite one. Had tons of flavor

The stock

Me with a beer
I cannot skim over dinner that night, it was really good. We stumbled upon an open air market where there was a lot of great looking food. The one that stuck out to us was this lady making pad thai and dumplings. It was incredible.

The next day Josh wasn't feeling well so I now embarked on a journey of Brussels by myself. Belgium is apparently well known for their french fries  and Josh recommended this place, so I went out there and got them, and they were amazing. I don't know what it was about them, but they were just perfect. It's also common in Europe to eat your fries with mayo. At first I thought it was gross, but once I tried it I was hooked.

I then went over to the Belgian Military Museum. They had everything you could ever imagine from all time periods, including knights. Of  course I gravitated towards the area of WWI and WWII. This place was huge though, one of the biggest museums I've ever been to. They had a hanger of planes which I found particularly awesome. They have tanks too, but they don't let you see them in the winter because its outside, which makes 0 sense because the tanks are just sitting out there exposed to the elements so it's not like that is the reason why they don't let you see it. I just don't know. Oh well.

Here are some highlights of the museum.

Recreated Atlantic Wall Post/AA Gun

Mock sleeping quarters of the Atlantic Wall bunker. It was pretty neat, you walk through a series of halls, all mocked up like the bunker

Simulated landing onto the D-Day beaches

I think this is a spitfire, but don't quote me on that

A few of the hanger. Tons of planes from all eras. From balloons to a F-16

That night for dinner I just grabbed some more street food or something and then I found this dessert which was the love of my life. It was only 2.50 or something like that too

Its a Belgian waffle dark chocolate sauce with 1 scoop of double chocolate ice cream and 1 scoop of macadamia nut ice cream with whipped cream. Absolute heaven

The next day I headed on over to Auto World. Auto world was awesome. Over 200 cars of all makes, types, time periods. Just awesome. Could spend a lifetime here. There was also a wine tasting happening here when I went, which was a little weird, but whatever. Anyways here are some highlights.

A view of the showroom

My absolute favorite car in the world. 1978 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa. The black wheels and body, the body shape, the way the headlights are above the hood. Plus sounds amazing. This is the exact car I want if I can ever afford it, but its in a museum so that's wishful thinking

I just thought this car was sweet for some reason. Its a 2014 Rally Version of a VW Beetle

This car is sort of wacky but cool. Its a 1955 Messerschmitt KR 200. Yes Messerschmitt as is Messerschmitt German WWII aircraft manufacturer. After the war, they put out this car, designed to look like the cockpit of an aircraft. Tiny cars like these were super popular in post war Europe, and used very little fuel (this car is a 1 cylinder) So you won't get there fast, but you'll get there cheap, while looking like your flying a fighter. Win-win right? Also its a 2 seater and I think we can all agree you're guaranteed a second date if you pick her up in this thing for the first.

There is also this F-1 Car, which you got to sit in. Its not a real F-1 car. There is a famous comic book which features this F-1 driver, so they made his car, and let you read the comics and sit in the car. It was really cool. I don't really know what I thought before, but I never realized before I sat in it that your legs go down the body so they are between the front wheels.

Now a real F-1 car

So there were obviously a lot more cars, but these were the most interesting/ones I found cool. It was a really awesome museum.

Left here and went back to the city center, which leads me through the European Union's "Headquarters" so to speak. All the major offices of the EU are here. There was military with assault rifles everywhere, and also a lot of protesters. There was also several motorcades escorting whoever happened to be in town. On one occasion this motorcade went flying by and stopped across the street from me and this guy got out and went into his hotel. I was watching BBC that night and it turns out it was the Greek Finance Minister, in town meeting with the EU to hash out their debt plan, so that was cool

Of course I stopped by Hard Rock and got my food and glass. I got a free ice cream sundae since I bought that EU Rail Trainpass. The Hard Rock is located on the city square, which was quite good looking.

This made me realize that this is something we don't really have too much of in America. A central town square like these ones in all these European cities.

Of course I got some Belgian chocolate. Stopped by a chocolatier and he gave me a free sample of dark chocolate with raspberry filling and sea salt on top. It was amazing. So I said ok I will take a box of your assorted chocolates. One box costs 12.50 for 16 pieces. But if you buy 4 boxes you get 1 free, soooo

Whoops

Just finished the first box as I was writing this. Not bad for getting it a month ago

That's all for Belgium, next stop, Paris.
